"Songs of Life" Legacy Book

We praise your name, who breathes us,
the Singer and the Song

The Songs of Life legacy book at the Centre for Christian Studies is a planned giving program that offers participants an opportunity to leave both a financial and historical legacy to CCS. Contributors make a promise to leave a bequest to CCS and have their life stories inscribed in the Songs of Life legacy book.

Read the legacy book

In the pages of the Songs of Life legacy book, participants share their values, visions, histories and hopes for the future. Entries serve as an enduring legacy, demonstrating the commitment of each person. We invite everyone to participate in the Songs of Life legacy book, providing important life learnings and history for the generations yet to come.

What costs are involved in becoming a Songs of Life signer?

There is no immediate cost. Participants are expected to leave a lasting financial gift to CCS.

What are the bequests used for?

Donations are established for investment purposes to secure the future and history of the Centre for Christian Studies. Contributors may leave instructions for their bequest to be used for a specific function of CCS such as scholarship/bursary incentives. Donations over $5,000 will be added to the CCS Endowment Fund to secure the future of CCS (unless otherwise designated). Donations may be designated toward the Operating Fund, Bursaries or the Endowment Fund. Undesignated donations and bequests may be used toward the costs of the current program.

CREATING YOUR STORY

Who can become Songs of Life participant?

Participants can be anyone who:

  • self-identifies as diaconal
  • has a significant connection to the school or the diaconal community
  • supports CCS’s core values

Can participants get help writing their story?

Staff or students at the Centre for Christian Studies can assist in writing stories.

Can you write a story on behalf of another person?

Yes, you can honour another person by telling their story. We want to ensure that all memories remain part of the CCS community.

What happens to the stories once they are written?

Once a story is created, it will be inscribed in the Songs of Life legacy book which will be located at the Centre for Christian Studies as well as on our website www.ccsonline.ca

How does someone become a Songs of Life signer?

Anyone who is interested in having a story written in the Songs of Life legacy book should contact the Centre for Christian Studies.

The Songs of Life program honours donors who fund either a current or future gift to the Centre for Christian Studies. Individuals who sign the Songs of Life make a commitment that either during their lifetime, or through a bequest, a portion of their estate will remain as an endowment to CCS.

Anyone can leave a legacy, and everyone can make a difference in the lives that follow.

Centre for Christian Studies:

  • educating students for ministry in a setting that values teamwork, creativity, and care for one another
  • embracing God’s gift of diversity; committed to justice and right relationships inspired by feminist and liberation theologies
  • offering theological programs not just to those on a path toward diaconal ministry, but also to those seeking new skills for their life in faith, and to ministers seeking continuing education
  • welcoming students of all denominations
  • providing theological education nationally since 1892, with roots in the deaconess training schools of the Anglican and United Churches of Canada

What can I give?

  • Outright gifts are gifts of cash, personal or business funds.
  • Gifts of securities allow you to transfer shares or mutual funds to CCS without paying any income tax on capital gains.
  • Gifts of Annuities allow the Centre to work into the future. A gift to CCS gives you guaranteed income and creates a gift to the Centre at the time of your death.
  • Gifts of life insurance allows you to make donations in installments over years. There are three giving opportunities with life insurance available
    1. Transfer ownership of existing policy and name CCS as the beneficiary
    2. Purchase a new policy and name CCS as both owner and beneficiary
    3. Name CCS as beneficiary or partial beneficiary while retaining policy ownership.
  • Bequests are gifts left to CCS through your will by specific amount or by percentage of your estate
  • RRSP/RRIFS are gifts to which you can name CCS as beneficiary.
